Abhishek Ashok is a commercial photographer based in Mumbai. He has been shooting professionally for five years and founded ShutterPhrase to do something specific: bring narrative back into commercial content.

He grew up in Mumbai and studied Media and Mass Communication, which gave him an early grounding in how stories are structured and why some images stick while others don't. Before starting ShutterPhrase, he worked at a production firm that operated across web series, short films, feature films, and commercial content. That stretch of time was useful. It showed him the range of what visual storytelling could be, and it made obvious what commercial photography was consistently failing to do.

Philosophy

At some point, commercial photography stopped being about the brand behind the product and became about the product alone. E-commerce grids, usage videos, white backgrounds, consistent lighting. Repeatable, efficient, and almost completely interchangeable. You could swap the logo on most of it and nothing would change.

The thing that was missing was the founder. The person who spent two years figuring out the formula, or built the restaurant around a specific memory, or launched the brand because nothing on the market was made the way they wanted it made. That story rarely made it into the frame.

Abhishek started ShutterPhrase because he believed you could change that. That a product shoot could communicate why the product exists, not just what it looks like. That a founder portrait could feel like the person, not just look like them. Every session begins with understanding what the client is building and what they want people to feel when they encounter it. The camera comes after that.

How a Session Works

Brief

Every project starts with a conversation about what you are working on, who you are trying to reach, and what you need the content to do. That brief shapes everything else.

Pre-production

Moodboard, shot list, location, wardrobe direction, and any logistics are all handled before shoot day. Nothing is being figured out on the clock.

Shoot Day

The session is directed rather than improvised. The shot list gets covered and every decision made on the day is intentional.

Editing

All selects go through a consistency review before delivery. You receive images that work together as a set, not a folder of individual frames.

Delivery

Photo-only shoots deliver in 5 to 7 working days. Projects that include video deliver in 10 to 14 working days, with one round of revisions included as standard.

Locations

ShutterPhrase is based in Mumbai and shoots across the city, from studio setups in Andheri and Bandra to location work across South Mumbai and the suburbs. Projects regularly extend to Pune for brand and corporate shoots, Lonavala for editorial and outdoor sessions, and Alibaug for destination content and private events.
